Dumpster rental in Dundalk's neighborhoods

Old Dundalk and the historic district

Dundalk dates to 1916 as one of the country's first planned communities, and its core has been a national historic district since 1983. In 1918 and 1919, the federal government built 815 stucco houses with slate roofs on curving streets like Shipway Road, Sunship Road and Admiral Boulevard. The houses sit close together on small planned-era lots, many with alley access behind them.

St. Helena and the rowhouse blocks

St. Helena's rowhouses run in straight lines on a street grid, a different layout from the curves of Old Dundalk. Part of St. Helena crosses the line into Baltimore City. Across Dundalk, red-brick rowhouses with a parking pad off the back alley are one of the most common homes we deliver to.

Turner Station and Gray Haven

Turner Station sits near Fleming Park, with rows of townhomes along its streets. The Gray Haven townhomes come with yards and attached brick storage sheds, and a shed cleanout is its own small job.

North Point Road, Wise Avenue and the water

Heading out North Point Road and Wise Avenue toward Edgemere, Sparrows Point and Fort Howard, more of the homes face the water. Dundalk has about 43 miles of waterfront, and this side of it floods in big storms. Holabird Avenue, Merritt Boulevard and Dundalk Avenue carry the shops and businesses we deliver to as well.

Sizes that fit Dundalk rowhouses and lots

For a rowhouse or duplex remodel, the 15 yard leads. When the container has to fit behind the house, the 10 yard is the one we reach for. The 20 yard is for a full rehab.

MAC Dumpsters 15 yard roll-off dumpster

15 yard for a rowhouse or duplex redo

A kitchen, a bathroom or a finished basement in a Dundalk rowhouse fits the 15 yard dumpster rental at $450. It holds about six pickup loads with 2 tons included, and it's the size our customers rent most.

MAC Dumpsters 10 yard roll-off dumpster

10 yard for the parking pad out back

The 10 yard roll-off is 12 feet long, which suits a rear parking pad or a short front driveway. It holds about four pickup loads with 1.5 tons for $375. One floor of a rowhouse, a basement or a Gray Haven shed usually fits.

MAC Dumpsters 20 yard roll-off dumpster

20 yard for a full rehab

Taking a whole house down to the studs before it's sold or rented sends out every room at once. The 20 yard dumpster holds about eight pickup loads with 3 tons included for $550.

Estimates assume standard 33-gallon trash bags and a full-size pickup bed loaded level with the sides. Actual capacity depends on the material and how it's loaded. Included tonnage applies no matter how full the dumpster looks, and weight over it is billed per ton.

What cannot be placed in a dumpster?

A MAC Dumpsters roll-off cannot take concrete, brick, block, asphalt or dirt, and it cannot take paint, hazardous materials, appliances with freon or household garbage. Everything else from a cleanout, remodel or roof job can usually go in. Tires, mattresses, box springs, electronics and non-freon appliances go in with a fee.

In a brick rowhouse, this matters. Old front steps, brick from a knocked-out wall and a concrete basement floor all have to stay out.

What Dundalk customers throw out

  • Rowhouse and duplex rehab debris

Plaster and drywall, lath, old cabinets, flooring, doors and windows make up most Dundalk loads. Rehab debris runs heavy, so check the included tons before you pick a size. Our home project dumpster page explains how a house load weighs.

  • Basement and shed cleanouts

Rowhouse basements and backyard sheds fill up with old furniture, tools, boxes and holiday decorations. That load is bulky but light, so the container runs out of room before it runs out of weight.

  • Roof tear-offs, slate included

The houses in Old Dundalk were built with slate roofs, and some still have them. Slate is far heavier than asphalt shingles, so call us for sizing before a slate tear-off. Asphalt shingle jobs are sized by the square on our roofing dumpster page.

  • Storm cleanup on the water side

After a surge or a big wind, the homes out toward Edgemere and Fort Howard send out wet carpet, drywall, fencing and limbs. Our storm cleanup dumpster guide covers what that debris weighs.

Where a dumpster goes in Dundalk

  • Alleys, parking pads and the street

Many rowhouses here load from the back, through the alley and onto the parking pad. Tell us when you book if the alley is the way in, and we'll talk through whether the container can be set there. If it has to go on the street, check our guide to which permit office covers your address first. The St. Helena blocks inside Baltimore City follow city rules, not county rules.

  • Close-set houses in the historic core

In Old Dundalk, the houses sit close together on curving streets under mature trees. We can set a container on any surface, so a front yard works when there's no driveway. Look for low branches and overhead wires in the way, and call if your spot is tight. Our placement guide covers what to measure.

How to get rid of a heavy sofa?

Take off the legs and cushions, get a second person to help carry it, and put it in a rented dumpster or set it out for a scheduled bulk pickup. In a MAC Dumpsters roll-off, a sofa goes in with no extra fee. The walk-in door means you carry it in at ground level instead of lifting it over the wall.

In a rowhouse, the hard part is usually the stairs. Clear the path to the door first, and bring the heaviest pieces down while you still have help.

Dundalk's storm and project calendar

Storm season peaks from August through October. Isabel in 2003 and Sandy in 2012 both flooded Dundalk's waterfront, and the homes toward Edgemere, Sparrows Point and Fort Howard took on water. Summer thunderstorms bring down trees and fences on every side of town, and winter storms can do the same to roofs and gutters.

Rehab work runs all year in Dundalk's rowhouses, with spring and summer the busiest time for roofs and exteriors. Rental turnovers keep a steady flow of cleanouts between tenants.

Why Dundalk homeowners and landlords use MAC

Sized for a rowhouse rehab

Our three sizes line up with rowhouse work: a 10 yard for one floor, a 15 for a kitchen or bath, a 20 for a whole-house rehab. You don't pay for a bigger container than the house needs.

Turnovers between tenants

Landlords clearing a unit before the next lease get the same 14 days, the same prices and a swap-out if the first container fills.

A phone call for slate

An Old Dundalk slate roof isn't sized by a web form. Call us, tell us the roof, and we'll help you pick the size and plan for the weight.

Proof from a past rental

Good service is hard to come by these days. Mac Dumpsters was right on time as promised and had asap exit once project was complete. A+ in my book.

Questions from Dundalk renters

Do dumpsters attract rats?

A roll-off holding cleanout or remodel debris draws far fewer pests than a garbage dumpster, because there's no food waste in it. MAC Dumpsters doesn't accept household garbage, so keep kitchen trash and food out of the container. Text us when you're done so it doesn't sit loaded longer than needed.

Why are mattresses so expensive to dump?

Mattresses don't crush down, their springs can tangle disposal equipment, and many disposal sites handle them separately from other debris. That extra handling is why they carry a fee. In a MAC Dumpsters roll-off, a mattress or box spring is $30 each.

Does MAC Dumpsters deliver to Turner Station and Edgemere?

Yes. We deliver to Turner Station, Edgemere, Sparrows Point, Fort Howard and every other part of Dundalk. Every one of them gets the same prices and no delivery fee.

Can I get a construction dumpster in Dundalk?

Yes. Contractors rent our 15 and 20 yard containers for rowhouse rehabs, roofs and remodels across Dundalk, with swap-outs when a container fills. Call (410) 205-5330 for contractor pricing and terms.
