Covered on this Arnold page

This page covers renting a dumpster from MAC Dumpsters in Arnold. It names the communities we deliver to, explains why the 20 yard leads on the Broadneck and when the 15 yard is enough, and lists what can't go in. It also covers placement on a wooded or sloped lot, Arnold's storm and project seasons, and the nearby Anne Arundel towns we serve.

Can I rent a dumpster for a deck or dock replacement in Arnold?

Yes. Old decking, railings, stairs, framing and pier boards are renovation debris and go in any MAC Dumpsters roll-off. Most deck tear-outs fit a 15 yard, which holds about six pickup loads with 2 tons included for $450. Concrete footings and piers have to stay out.

Pressure-treated lumber is heavy, especially when it's wet. For a big multi-level deck, the 20 yard at $550 with 3 tons gives you more margin. Our construction debris dumpster page covers loading lumber so it lies flat.

Arnold communities we deliver to

  • Bay Hills

Bay Hills grew up around the Bay Hills Golf Club, which opened in 1969. Its brick-front single-family houses and townhouses, mostly from the 1970s and 1980s, are right at the age for new kitchens, baths and decks.

  • Ulmstead Estates and the Magothy side

Ulmstead Estates sits on a peninsula on the Magothy River, with large, wooded lots, houses that include 1960s colonials, and community marinas. Big lots with big trees make yard and storm cleanup a regular job here.

  • Mago Vista Beach

Mago Vista Beach mixes original mid-century cottages with larger, newer homes that replaced some of them. Lots are smaller, so container placement takes more planning.

  • Pines on the Severn and Chase Creek

On the Severn side, Pines on the Severn, also known as Hidden Hills, runs down wooded hills to Chase Creek, with some houses dating to the early 1950s and a community pier. Hilly lots and older houses make remodels and cleanups a little more involved.

  • College Parkway and Ritchie Highway

Anne Arundel Community College sits on College Parkway, and shopping centers like Bay Hills and Arnold Station serve the neighborhoods along it and Ritchie Highway. Townhome and condo communities such as Ulmstead Gardens fill in between.

Arnold's sizes, in order

The 20 yard leads in Arnold because so many jobs mix a wooded lot's yard debris with work on the house. The 15 yard is enough for most single projects like a deck, a kitchen or a bath. The 10 yard fits the townhomes and small cottage lots.

MAC Dumpsters 20 yard roll-off dumpster

20 yard for a lot and a house at once

Clearing storm limbs and overgrown brush while a basement or garage gets emptied fills the 20 yard dumpster, with about eight pickup loads and 3 tons for $550.

MAC Dumpsters 15 yard roll-off dumpster

15 yard for a deck, a kitchen or a bath

A deck tear-out or a kitchen or bath remodel in a Bay Hills or Ulmstead house fits the 15 yard roll-off, with about six pickup loads and 2 tons for $450.

MAC Dumpsters 10 yard roll-off dumpster

10 yard for a townhome or a cottage lot

Townhome moves in communities off College Parkway and small jobs on a Mago Vista cottage lot fit the 10 yard container, 12 feet long, with 1.5 tons for $375.

Estimates assume standard 33-gallon trash bags and a full-size pickup bed loaded level with the sides. Actual capacity depends on the material and how it's loaded. Included tonnage applies no matter how full the dumpster looks, and weight over it is billed per ton.

What can't ride in an Arnold container

A MAC Dumpsters roll-off doesn't accept concrete, brick, block, asphalt, dirt, paint, hazardous materials, household garbage, or appliances with freon such as refrigerators and air conditioners. It does accept lumber, decking, furniture, cleanout junk, renovation debris, yard waste, stumps, sod and shingles. Tires ($15), mattresses and box springs ($30), and electronics and non-freon appliances ($35) go in for a fee.

On a waterfront property, watch for old boat fuel, oil and cleaning chemicals in the shed or garage. Those stay out. Concrete deck footings and brick patio pavers stay out too.

Arnold loads, job by job

  • Decks, docks and porches

Wet winters and humid summers by the water wear out outdoor wood. Decking, railings, stairs and pier boards come out together, and a 15 yard handles most of it.

  • Storm limbs and wooded-lot cleanup

Big trees on the Broadneck drop limbs in every thunderstorm and sometimes come down whole. Limbs, brush, stumps and sod all go in. Our yard cleanup dumpster page covers loading brush so it packs tight.

  • 1970s and '80s kitchen and bath updates

Houses in Bay Hills and similar communities are reaching their second or third remodel. Cabinets, counters, tile and drywall make a steady 15 yard load.

  • Cottage updates near the water

Older cottages in Mago Vista Beach and along the creeks get gutted and rebuilt inside. Plaster, paneling, old floors and fixtures come out in heavy loads.

What is the 50% rule in decluttering?

One version of the 50% rule says to keep only half of what you own in any one category, like books, kitchen gear or tools, and let the other half go. It gives you a clear target instead of an item-by-item debate. What doesn't get donated or sold can go in a MAC Dumpsters roll-off.

It works well in a garage or boat shed, where gear piles up. Just keep fuel cans and chemicals out of the container.

Setting a container on an Arnold lot

Wooded and sloped lots

Many Arnold driveways wind through trees or run downhill toward the water. Pick the flattest spot close to where you'll load, and look up for low limbs and wires. We can set a container on any surface, so level ground off the drive works too. Our dumpster placement checklist covers what to check.

Townhome and community rules

Communities like Ulmstead Gardens and the Bay Hills townhouses may have rules about where a container can sit, so check with the association first. If a container would have to go on a county road, read our dumpster permit guide by jurisdiction before you book.

Arnold's year of projects

Spring is deck and dock season, when winter damage gets fixed before boating starts. Summer brings remodels. Fall is for leaves, limbs and the yard work that got put off.

Storms on the Broadneck bring down trees and limbs, from summer thunderstorms and high winds to winter ice. Wind and high water can damage docks, decks and sheds along the Severn and Magothy, and heavy rain can put water in a low basement. Our storm debris roll-off page covers what to rent after one.

What Arnold renters ask

What is the 333 rule for decluttering?

The 333 rule usually refers to Project 333, a wardrobe challenge where you wear only 33 clothing items, shoes and accessories for 3 months. It's a way to find out what you actually use. Clothes that don't make the cut can be donated, and worn-out ones can go in a MAC Dumpsters roll-off with the rest of a cleanout.

Do you deliver to Severna Park and Cape St. Claire?

Yes. Severna Park, Cape St. Claire and the rest of the Broadneck get the same prices as Arnold, with no delivery fee.

Will a storm-downed tree fit in a 20 yard dumpster?

A mid-size tree usually does if it's cut into lengths that lie flat. Green wood is heavy, and the 20 yard includes 3 tons, so a large trunk can go over that at $125 per ton. For a big tree, call us and we'll help you size it.
