Flood cleanup fills a dumpster with soaked drywall, carpet, subfloor and ruined furniture, and wet debris weighs far more than it looks. MAC Dumpsters rents 10, 15 and 20 yard containers for storm debris across Baltimore City and Baltimore, Harford and Anne Arundel counties, sized to the weight of the job. Each one includes 14 days and no delivery fee, from the Middle River yard of a locally owned roll-off dumpster company.

We deliver across Baltimore City and Baltimore, Harford and Anne Arundel counties with our own hook-lift truck and driver. We run 12 containers and hold a 5.0 rating on Google.

What a storm debris job produces
Around here, storm cleanup is mostly water cleanup. Isabel hit Bowleys Quarters and Essex hardest in 2003, and Sandy flooded the same communities again in 2012, including homes at Wilson Point. Much of the housing on the peninsulas between Back River and Middle River went up in the 1940s through the 1960s, close to the waterline, and tidal flooding reaches homes outside the mapped floodplain.
Typical debris stream
A flood tear-out fills a container with the parts of a house that soaked up water: wet drywall, insulation, carpet and pad, trim, flooring, subfloor and ruined furniture. It comes out in layers. Contents go first, then flooring, then walls.
Jobs that produce this kind of debris:
- Flooded basement tear-out
- Tidal flood cleanout at a waterfront home
- Soaked carpet and pad removal
- Wet drywall and trim tear-out
- Subfloor replacement after standing water
- Clearing out water-ruined furniture
- Water damage cleanup after a storm
Downed limbs and brush are a different load. They're light and bulky, so a trees-only cleanup sizes like yard waste, not like a flood tear-out.
Which dumpster size handles a flood tear-out?
A 15 yard handles most flood tear-outs, with room for about six pickup loads of carpet, pad and drywall from several rooms. A 10 yard fits small jobs and tight waterfront lots, and a 20 yard fits a whole floor stripped to the studs. Wet debris is heavy, so at MAC Dumpsters we match the size to the weight of the job as well as the pile.
15 yard: room for room-scale tear-outs
The 15 yard dumpster rental gives you room for room-scale tear-outs: the carpet, pad, drywall and ruined furniture from a basement or several rooms. It holds about six pickup loads and includes 2 tons. Soaked material reaches that weight quickly, so if more than a basement is coming out, look at the 20.
10 yard: tight waterfront lots
Many peninsula homes sit on narrow lots with short driveways. Our smallest container is 12 feet long, which makes it the easiest to place. It holds about four pickup loads and includes 1.5 tons, and wet debris gets there fast. On a tight lot, plan on a swap rather than loading one container past its tonnage.
20 yard: whole-floor gut-outs
When a whole floor comes out to the studs, book the 20 yard roll-off. It holds about eight pickup loads and includes 3 tons, a full ton more than the 15 for $100 more. On a heavy flood job, that extra ton costs less than a ton of overage would on the smaller container.
Estimates assume standard 33-gallon trash bags and a full-size pickup bed loaded level with the sides. Actual capacity depends on the material and how it's loaded. Included tonnage applies no matter how full the dumpster looks, and weight over it is billed per ton.
Can flooded appliances go in a dumpster?
Some can. Flooded washers, dryers, stoves and other appliances without freon go in a MAC Dumpsters container at $35 each. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and anything else with freon can't go in at all, even when water has ruined them. Set those aside for separate disposal before you start loading.
When a storm cleanup dumpster needs a permit
It depends on where the container sits. The flood-prone peninsulas around Essex, Bowleys Quarters, Middle River and Dundalk are all in Baltimore County. There, a dumpster on a private driveway needs no permit, and a container on a public street or right-of-way needs one from Baltimore County DPW. The homeowner gets that permit, not MAC. Details are on our page of permit rules by jurisdiction.
Rules differ in Baltimore City and the other counties. In Baltimore City, the right-of-way permit has a standard processing time of 15 days, so a street placement there takes planning ahead.
When to schedule your dumpster during a flood cleanup
Get the water out and make the space safe before the container arrives. Photograph the damage before anything goes in, because once it's hauled, it's gone.
Then work in the order the house comes apart. Pull soaked contents first: furniture, rugs and boxes. Carpet and pad come next, then drywall, insulation, trim and subfloor.
Load level with the top of the container. An overfilled container may not be hauled until the extra comes off, because loose debris can fall onto the road. Every rental includes 14 calendar days from delivery, and a whole-floor gut-out can fill a container well before that. When it's full, text or call and we'll swap it.
How storm debris dumpster rental works
Pick a size online, or call and talk the job through with us. Order by noon for the best chance at same-day delivery, depending on availability. Our hook-lift truck slides the container straight back into the spot you pick. It typically needs about 50 feet of straight-line room, 12 to 14 feet overhead and 10 to 12 feet of width, so call if the lot is tight. Load on your schedule, text us for a swap when it's full, or text when you're done and we'll pick it up.
What a storm debris dumpster costs
A storm cleanup rental runs $375 to $550, depending on size. Every price includes delivery, pickup, 14 days and set tonnage, with no delivery fee. Weight over the included tons is $125 per ton, days past day 14 are $25 each, and a swap costs the same as the rental. Every rate and fee is listed with our pricing and rental terms.
Why flood cleanup customers choose MAC Dumpsters
Based where the water comes in
Our yard is in Middle River, on the same stretch of eastern Baltimore County that took on water in Isabel and Sandy. We know the peninsula roads and the short driveways at the end of them.
A shot at same-day when it counts
Order by noon for the best chance at same-day delivery, depending on availability. After a storm, that can mean the tear-out starts today instead of next week.
No delivery fee to the end of the peninsula
Bowleys Quarters, Fort Howard, Sparrows Point and Chase pay the same as a house next to our yard. No address we serve pays a delivery fee.
Swap-outs for longer storm cleanups
Big tear-outs often need more than one container. Instead of fitting a second one beside the first, we swap them: the full container leaves and an empty one lands in the same spot, at the same price as the rental, with fresh tonnage. It keeps a long job moving on a driveway with room for only one container.
Flood-prone communities we deliver to
We deliver across Baltimore City and Baltimore, Harford and Anne Arundel counties. The communities with the most tidal-flood exposure sit on the waterfront east side: Bowleys Quarters, Chase, Edgemere, Fort Howard and Sparrows Point. That also covers dumpster rental in Essex, Middle River roll-off containers and dumpster delivery to Dundalk. See where we deliver for every community we serve.
Storm debris dumpster questions
Should I cover my rented dumpster?
If rain is on the way, yes. Water soaks into drywall, carpet and furniture and adds weight. Weight over your included tonnage is billed at $125 per ton, so a wet load after a rainstorm can cost more than the same load kept dry.
How far in advance should I book a dumpster?
Book as soon as you know the cleanup is coming. Demand for containers jumps right after a storm, and MAC Dumpsters runs one truck and 12 containers. Order by noon for the best chance at same-day delivery, depending on availability.
Should I take pictures before throwing away flood damaged items?
Yes. Photograph each room and the damaged items before anything goes in the dumpster, because once the load is hauled, it's gone. Ask your insurance company what it needs to see before you start tearing out.
Can storm-downed branches go in a dumpster?
Yes. Branches and limbs brought down by a storm are accepted, and they can share a container with flood debris. They're light for their size, so cut them short and lay them flat to save room.
Can wet insulation go in a dumpster?
Yes, wet insulation is accepted with the rest of a flood tear-out. It holds a lot of water, so bag it if you can and expect it to add weight to the load.
